Meet the Software Creator
They say knowing the seller builds trust in a potential buyer. I'll go along with that. And you can tell me if that is true since they are talking about you. For my part, I rather let my software win over you. You see, a well crafted piece of software is a joy to experience. And more so, an absolute joy to create. I was for some 15 years a top-notch best-paid software developer in the Mainframe, Unix and Windows worlds. That fact amounts to nothing in the Internet marketplace. As they said, it is a whole new ball game. A buyer buys because he is convinced of the value of the software, tempered perhaps by some fancy sales pitch. They say one should follow one's passion. So somewhere along the way, I took to the wide open road, a road less traveled. Never dare to dream anymore of the hourly rate I command as a software consultant. My dream is a million sales! That makes a good laugh I know. What good is a man if he cannot laugh at himself? But I have no time laughing since I have to start with ten, hundred then thousand. I wait for the day when Rubik's cube craze is rekindled by my software creations that teach how to solve the Rubik's Cube, then suddenly a million sales is not so outlandish anymore. True software developers are not unlike the artists in any field afflicted with passion and a dose of talent, always toiling in relative obscurity and constantly striving for the elusive beauty and perfection. When reward comes, it is often an ego stroke rather than financial. And in my case I get affirmation when a buyer comes back for more: I just purchased your VirtualCube 3x3x3 program, after finding
the Tutor very helpful... By the way, your Rubik's cube programs are
pretty cool. I especially like how you use mirroring to show the hidden
sides of the cube. No one else seems to be doing that. Also, being
able to demo the programs on your web site is great.
The passion and whatever meager talent they have are their unfortunate afflictions causing others around them to roll their eyes and throw up their hands in despair. Many could not help but follow that passion like moths attracted to the lights. In the end few, if any, software developers ever become rich, but they take joy and pride in what they create. I know, I am one. If my software can bring joy and insight to you, then knowing that would be reward enough for me. Otherwise, I have failed which causes me unspeakable sorrow. Thank you. If you have any question or comment please email me for a prompt reply. You would brighten up my day if you can suggest ways to improve my software.
